'Despicable' attraction - Third Minions movie tops holiday weekend

Studio estimates on Sunday said that Universal Pictures and Illumination's Despicable Me 3 earned US$75.4 million over the weekend.
Featuring the voices of Steve Carell and Trey Parker, Despicable Me 3 easily topped the holiday weekend charts from 4,529 cinemas in North America.
Edgar Wright's original heist movie Baby Driver coasted to US$30 million in its first five days in cinemas, with US$21 million from the three-day weekend to take second place.It cost a reported $34 million to produce.
Sofia Coppola's R-rated Civil War-set film The Beguiled scored in its expansion from four to 674 cinema in its second weekend. It earned US$3.3 million to take eighth place and bested franchise fare, including The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which were both playing in over 1,670 cinemas.
The well-reviewed romantic comedy The Big Sick also did good business in its expansion to 71 locations, earning US$1.7 million. The R-rated film expands widely on July 14.
Not so successful was suburban gambling comedy The House, which landed in sixth place with only US$9 million - one of the lowest of Ferrell's career.
Following are estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at US and Canadian cinemas according to comScore.
1. Despicable Me 3, US$75.4 million (US$95.6 million international).
2. Baby Driver, US$21 million (US$6.8 million international).
3.Transformers:The Last Knight, US$17 million ($68 million international).
4. Wonder Woman, US$15.6 million (US$13.6 million international).
5. Cars 3, US$9.5 million (US$5 million international).
6. The House, US$9 million (US$2.7 million international)
7. 47 Meters Down, US$4.7 million (US$800,000 international)
8. The Beguiled, US$3.3 million ($460,000 international).
9. The Mummy, $2.8 million ($10.3 million international).
10. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, $2.4 million (US$16.3 million international).
