It's a done deal - Wray & Nephew are title sponsors for JA Carnival 2017

Wray & Nephew has announced their partnership with Jamaica Carnival this year as title sponsors.

Delivering the news at a recent media announcement held at @twentythree on Dominica Drive were Pietro Gramegna, marketing manager, (JWN Ltd; Campari Spritz); Julianne Lee, CEO of Jamaica Carnival; and government representative, Senator Matthew Samuda.

"This is a perfect match for the two brands, and in dealing with Julianne Lee, we found a lot of things in common," Gramegna said. "Our goals are the same. We want a Carnival this year that is for every man and every woman, that Byron Lee and Chukka Cove

Senator Samuda told The Gleaner that he is a big fan of the carnival experience and that Byron Lee contributed to that a great deal.

"I'm a very big fan of the carnival experience and like most people who got introduced to carnival, soca music and calypso, which is a big part of our history, and certainly for most of my friends, it was through Chukka Cove," he said.

"Chukka Cove was the melting pot of Jamaica society, I think even more than carnival. What Byron Lee was able to do through that, there's no other event that has filled that space. Usually, when an event stops being held, regardless of the name of it, something fills the space. That space is more than carnival day in my mind, and that's just the nostalgic feeling for me - and that space has not been filled," he continued.

"We have to have a diversified product to offer to people when they come here, and entertainment is a critical part of that," he added. Bringing attention to the recent announcement of the Government's investment in the Ward Theatre, Senator Samuda reiterated the Government's dedication to the enhancement of culture and entertainment in the country.

"Kingston city is the capital of the Caribbean. We are going to return Kingston to being the pearl of the Antilles," he said.
