Portland cops probe woman’s killing

On the day when Jamaica joined the rest of the world in marking International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women, the Portland police were called to a scene where the body of yet another murdered woman was found.
The body, which was clad only in a pair of black and red tights, was fished from the river at the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio shortly after 8:30 a.m. yesterday.
Detective Inspector Linton Bailey, who is in charge of crime in the Portland Police Division, said that it was about 2:45 yesterday morning that two cops who were on patrol in Port Antonio spotted a trail of blood, which extended all the way to a footbridge some 50 metres away.
"The police followed the trail of blood, but due to poor visibility, they were unable to detect anything," said Bailey.
"But upon their return at daybreak, they realised that blood was all over the bridge. The Marine Police combed the mangroves, and the body of a female was found downstream with what appeared to be stab wounds to the neck and face," added Bailey,
It was later discovered that the woman's throat had been slashed, with the neck almost severed. There was a also a large cut along the right cheek and a cut along the right arm of the woman, which the police believe was inflicted when she attempted to shield her face.
The police have theorised that the woman might have gone to the area willingly with friends and was later killed.
Up to press time yesterday, the police were appealing to the public for help to identify the body.
