Detectives question owner of killer truck

Police have begun to interview the owner of the garbage truck that rammed into a taxicab before crushing to death a seven-year-old student of Clan Carthy Primary School in Kingston on Monday.

“There are no new updates other than we are questioning the owner of the truck. He came forward and we are questioning him,” Superintendent Victor Hamilton, who heads the East Kingston Police Division, told The Gleaner last night.

The truck is registered to Deron Brown of a Kingston 19 address, The Gleaner understands.

Benjamin Bair was killed after the truck, which was reportedly unmanned at the time, mysteriously sped off during a pick-up stop on the school’s compound.

The hired driver of the truck, who fled the scene, along with his three assistants, remains the target of a desperate hunt by the police.

Denise Howell, the sole occupant of the wrecked taxi, sustained a chop wound over her left eye and bruises to her legs. She was released from hospital on Tuesday.
